Printing a document, signing it with a pen, scanning it and emailing it back takes ten minutes and a printer. For most everyday documents you can do the same thing on your phone in about a minute.
What you need
- The PDF you need to sign, saved on your phone or computer.
- Your finger, a stylus or a mouse to draw your signature. Or a photo of your signature on white paper.
Step by step
- Open Sign PDF and choose your PDF.
- Draw your signature in the box. Take your time. You can clear it and try again.
- Tap or drag on the page preview to place the signature where it belongs, usually on a signature line.
- Use the size slider so it fits the line, and the page arrows to move to the right page.
- Choose whether to sign just this page or every page, then save and download.
Using a photo of your real signature
A drawn signature with a finger rarely looks like your pen signature. For a closer match:
- Sign a blank white sheet of paper with a dark pen.
- Photograph it in good light, straight from above, with the signature filling most of the photo.
- In Sign PDF choose Use an image. The white background is removed automatically, so only the ink is placed on the page.
Is this a legal signature?
What you add is an image of your signature placed on the document, the same as signing on paper and scanning it. In many countries and for many everyday documents (forms, delivery notes, simple agreements) this is accepted. Some documents need a formal digital signature with a certificate, or a signature in person. If you are not sure, ask the person or organisation that sent the document what they accept.
Keep it private
Signed documents often hold personal details. PDF Safehouse signs the file on your device, so neither the document nor your signature is uploaded anywhere. Your drawn signature is not saved after you close the page.
